The Disciple’s Burden Article 2 of 3

🌿 Law, Agency, and the Path of Christ

Jesus taught His followers to honor the laws of the land, to walk peaceably, and to live with integrity. But He also taught that every soul is navigating wounds, pressures, and unseen battles. When someone’s life becomes tangled in legal trouble or moral confusion, the disciple’s role is not to declare their damnation but to remember the complexity of mortality.

Agency is sacred. Consequences are real. But so is mercy.

When we witness someone making harmful choices—toward themselves, their family, or the law—we can acknowledge the harm without assuming we know the whole story. Christ never reduced a person to their worst moment. He never used someone’s sin as proof of their worthlessness. He never turned a human being into a symbol of corruption.

Instead, He invited repentance, healing, and restoration.

As disciples, we uphold the law, but we also uphold the dignity of every soul. We can grieve the choices that lead to destruction while still hoping for redemption. Justice and mercy are not enemies—they are the two hands of God working together.
