I AM has sent me to you

Will We Choose the God of I Am?

Core takeaway: 2 Samuel 7:24 answers our question—“Will we choose the God of I Am?”—by confronting us with the truth that God has already chosen us. The only open question is whether we will respond to His confirming love and step fully into our identity as His covenant people.

2 Samuel 7:24

“For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, Lord, art become their God.”

1. “Confirmed” — God has already moved toward us

"And how merciful is our God unto us, for he remembereth the house of Israel, both roots and branches; and he stretches forth his hands unto them all the day long; and they are a stiffnecked and a gainsaying people; but as many as will not harden their hearts shall be saved in the kingdom of God."

Cross‑reference: Jacob 6:4 — God is “long‑suffering… waiting for the day of our repentance.”

When the verse says God has confirmed us to Himself, it means:

  • God has already acted.
  • God has already committed.
  • God has already extended covenant loyalty toward us.
  • God has already taken the initiative to bind Himself to us.

This means the question “Will we choose the God of I Am?” is not about God’s willingness—He has already chosen us. It is about whether we will respond to His confirming grace.

We are not trying to convince God to accept us. We are deciding whether we will accept the God who has already confirmed us as His own.

2. “Israel” — Our identity is covenant, not ethnicity

"And from thence, whosoever I will shall go forth among all nations, and it shall be told them what they shall do; for I have a great work laid up in store, for Israel shall be saved, and I will lead them whithersoever I will, and no power shall stay my hand."

Cross‑reference: D&C 38:33 — God commands us to “be one,” because covenant identity is formed by obedience and unity.

In 2 Samuel 7:24, Israel is not merely a nation. It is:

  • A people shaped by covenant
  • A people gathered by God
  • A people formed by obedience
  • A people who belong to Him because they choose Him

To be “Israel” is to be the people who say yes to the God who has already said yes to us.

So the question becomes: Will we live as Israel—God’s people—or will we live as our own gods?

3. “A people unto thee for ever” — God offers permanence; we choose participation

God’s covenant is not temporary. His commitment is not seasonal. His faithfulness is not fragile.

He offers us an eternal identity. But identity requires agreement.

God says: “You are Mine.”
We must answer: “And You are our God.”

This is why the verse ends with: “and thou, Lord, art become their God.” Not because God changed—but because they chose Him back.

4. “Will We Choose the God of I Am?” — Personal and communal

This verse forces us to ask:

  • Will we let God confirm us, or will we resist Him?
  • Will we live as Israel—unified, obedient, covenantal?
  • Will we allow God to be our God in practice, not just in belief?
  • Will we choose the God who has already chosen us?

The God of I Am is not waiting to decide about us. He is waiting for us to decide about Him.

Ministry Principle

God has already confirmed us as His people; our calling is to confirm Him as our God.

God chooses us. We choose Him. And in that mutual choosing, we become His people forever.
