QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Mormon 8:22Does God Have a Plan for Us?

Most Poignant Scripture

“For the eternal ªpurposes of the Lord shall roll on, until all his promises shall be fulfilled.”
Mormon 8:22

ª Cross‑reference: D&C 3:3 — “For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left…”

Why These Words Answer the Question “Does God Have a Plan for Us?”

1. “Eternal purposes” — God’s plan is not improvised

When Mormon says eternal purposes, he is telling us that God’s plan for us is not temporary, reactive, or dependent on circumstances. It is eternal — it existed before we were born and will continue long after mortality.

D&C 3:3 reinforces this: God does not wander, adjust, or rethink His course. His purposes are straight, steady, and sure.

We are part of something ancient, intentional, and unchanging.

2. “Shall roll on” — God’s plan is active and unstoppable

“Shall roll on” is covenant language. It means God’s work moves forward like a river or a stone set in motion — steady, unstoppable, and gathering power.

Even when we feel stuck, confused, or uncertain, God’s plan for us is not stuck. His purposes move even when we feel motionless.

3. “Until all his promises shall be fulfilled” — God’s plan is promise‑driven

God’s plan is not vague. It is built on promises — covenants He intends to keep with us.

This means:

• We are not afterthoughts
• We are not experiments
• We are not abandoned projects

We are recipients of promises God fully intends to fulfill. D&C 3:3 supports this: God does not deviate from His course, which means He does not deviate from His promises to us.

Principle

God has an eternal plan for us — a plan that began before we were born, moves forward with divine certainty, and is anchored in promises He will not break. Because His purposes are eternal, steady, and unstoppable, we can trust that our lives are part of something intentional, covenantal, and filled with meaning.
