He Magnifies Us so that We May Magnify Him

Magnify the Glory of God!

Joshua 3:7

"And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee."

We receive this not as spectators but as a people walking with God. When God magnifies Joshua, He is not inflating a man’s ego — He is revealing His own glory through a servant who is fully yielded. What God magnified in Joshua, He desires to magnify in us, so that our lives become living witnesses of His presence, His faithfulness, and His power.

What “Magnify” Means in Joshua 3:7

To magnify (Hebrew gadal) means:

  • To make great in reputation
  • To display publicly
  • To elevate so others can clearly see God’s work
  • To reveal divine glory through a chosen vessel

God is not making Joshua impressive — He is making His own glory unmistakable through Joshua’s obedience.

Core pattern: God magnifies Himself through those who magnify Him.

Cross-Reference:The Witness of “Magnify”

1. Joshua 4:14 — The Lord Magnified Joshua

"On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life."

Scripture: On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel.

Why it matters:

  • Obedience first: God magnifies Joshua after Joshua obeys God’s instructions about the Jordan.
  • God’s validation: It is the Lord who establishes Joshua, not Joshua who promotes himself.
  • Trust in God’s order: Israel learns to trust God’s leadership because God Himself confirms it.

Principle: When we walk in obedience, God Himself establishes our influence.

2. 1 Chronicles 29:25 — The Lord Magnified Solomon

"And the Lord magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel."

Scripture: The Lord magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel.

Why it matters:

  • Covenant purpose: Solomon is magnified because his calling is tied to God’s covenant and the temple.
  • Kingdom focus: Magnification is for the sake of God’s kingdom, not personal glory.
  • Faithful stewardship: Glory flows through those who steward God’s purposes, not their own ambitions.

Principle: God magnifies those who steward His purposes, not their own.

Why These Scriptures Matter for Us

These passages reveal a consistent divine pattern:

  • God magnifies His glory through our obedience.
  • God magnifies His presence through our humility.
  • God magnifies His kingdom through our faithfulness.
  • God magnifies His Son through our discipleship.

Magnification is not about our status — it is about the visibility of God. When God magnifies us, He is magnifying Christ in us.

The Importance of Glorifying God Through Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the perfect revelation of God’s glory. The Father has highly exalted Him and given Him a name above every name. When we glorify Christ:

  • We align with heaven’s order.
  • We reflect the true image of God.
  • We become vessels of divine presence.
  • We walk in the same pattern as Joshua and Solomon, but in a greater covenant.

Principle: All true magnification now flows through Jesus Christ. We are magnified only as we magnify Him.

Applying This to Our Celestial Spiritual Growth

1. Personal Growth

  • Obedience in the small: We magnify God by obeying His voice in the hidden, ordinary places of life.
  • Christlike character: We allow Christ to be seen in our decisions, purity, and integrity.
  • Surrendered reputation: We lay down our need to be seen so God can shape how we are seen.

2. Family Growth

  • Glory in the home: Our homes become places where God’s glory is magnified through peace, prayer, and unity.
  • Modeling humility: We practice forgiveness, confession, and reconciliation in front of one another.
  • Teaching true greatness: We teach our children that greatness is measured by obedience, not applause.

3. Fellowship Growth

  • Honoring one another: We magnify God when we honor His work in each other instead of competing.
  • Christ above personalities: We lift up Christ, not our own names, titles, or platforms.
  • Shared testimony: We celebrate testimonies as evidence that God is among us.

4. Community Growth

  • Visible righteousness: Our community sees justice, mercy, compassion, and integrity, and recognizes God’s hand.
  • Embodied goodness: We become a people through whom God displays His goodness to the watching world.
  • Unity as a sign: Our unity becomes a sign that God is truly with us, as He was with Joshua.

The Core Principle

God magnifies His glory through a people who magnify Him first.

When we exalt Christ, God exalts His work in us. When we humble ourselves, God lifts us up. When we obey, God reveals His presence through our lives.

This is the celestial pattern for us as individuals, families, fellowships, and communities: He magnifies us so that we may magnify Him.
