ARP Step-12: SERVICE

Embarking Service for the Lord — A Dissection of Judges 6:14 for Our Walk, Our Ministry, and Our Recovery

Takeaway

The Lord does not send us in our weakness — He sends us in His strength, and invites us to serve with all our heart, might, mind, and strength.

1. What Judges 6:14 Is Saying to Us

“And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?”

Judges 6:14 is the moment God calls Gideon — a man who felt small, inadequate, and unprepared — into divine service. The Lord does not give him a new identity; He reveals the identity Gideon already had but could not see.

For us, this scripture becomes a mirror:
When God calls us to serve, He is not commenting on our résumé — He is revealing our divine capacity.

2. The Cross‑Reference: MightD&C 4:2

“Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.”

This is not a list of requirements — it is a description of what happens when we embark in the service of God:

  • Heart: our desire
  • Might: our God‑given capacity
  • Mind: our focus
  • Strength: our endurance

Together, they form a whole‑soul offering.

3. Why These Scriptures Matter

A. They reveal how God sees us

God calls us before we feel ready. He looks upon us — as He did Gideon — and says:

“Go. I am sending you. My strength is already in you.”

B. They teach that service is not optional in discipleship

Service is not a side assignment. It is the pathway by which we grow into the image of Christ.

C. They show that divine service is always empowered service

We do not serve alone. We serve with Him, through Him, and because of Him.

4. Why Service Is Important for Our Celestial Growth

A. Service purifies our motives

When we serve, we stop living for ourselves and begin living for God and His children.

B. Service aligns us with heaven’s rhythm

Heaven is a place of continual giving, lifting, healing, and ministering. When we serve, we practice the life we intend to live eternally.

C. Service transforms our families

A home built on service becomes a home built on charity, patience, and unity.

D. Service strengthens our fellowship and community

When we serve together, we become “of one heart and one mind.”

5. Step‑12 of the Addiction Recovery ProgramThe Heart of This Scripture

Step‑12: “Having had a spiritual awakening through the Atonement of Jesus Christ as a result of taking these steps, we share this message with others and practice these principles in all we do.”

Judges 6:14 is a 12-Step scripture.

A. God calls us after we have been awakened

Just as Gideon was awakened to his divine identity, Step‑12 awakens us to our divine purpose.

B. Step‑12 is the “Go in this thy might” moment

We do not wait until we are perfect. We go because God has healed us enough to begin healing others.

C. Step‑12 is service as sanctification

When we carry the message, we are not just helping others —
we are keeping ourselves spiritually alive.

D. Step‑12 is how we stay yoked to Christ

Service keeps us connected to the Savior’s power, humility, and compassion.

6. How We Apply These Principles in Our Celestial Spiritual Growth

A. In Our Personal Walk

  • We ask daily: “Lord, where would You have us go today?”
  • We serve even when we feel small — because Gideon felt small too.

B. In Our Families

  • We serve each other before we serve ourselves.
  • We practice forgiveness, patience, and lifting the weary.

C. In Our Fellowship

  • We watch for those who struggle silently.
  • We carry the message of hope, not just the message of doctrine.

D. In Our Community

  • We become the people God can send.
  • We show up where others avoid.
  • We bring light into places that feel forgotten.

7. The Principle (One Sentence)

When we embark in the service of God, we discover that the “might” He sees in us is the very strength He placed within us — and service becomes the path by which we grow into His likeness.
