House's of Glory according to our faith
22 And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day.
Who Gets to Be Resurrected?
Short Answer: Everyone.
Long Answer: 2 Nephi 9:12 tells us why.
Dissecting 2 Nephi 9:12 Through Our Question
📜 12 And this death of which I have spoken, which is the spiritual death, shall deliver up its dead; which spiritual death is hell; wherefore, death and hell must deliver up their dead, and hell must deliver up its captive spirits, and the grave must deliver up its captive bodies, and the bodies and the spirits of men will be restored one to the other; and it is by the power of the resurrection of the Holy One of Israel.
“Who gets to be resurrected?”
2 Nephi 9:12 teaches that:
▪︎ We all became subject to death because
of the Fall.
▪︎ We all become free from death because
of the Holy One of Israel.
▪︎ We all rise again—every one of us—
because Christ breaks the bands of
death.
The verse is universal in scope.
There is no exception, no condition, no worthiness threshold.
Resurrection is not earned—it is given.
When we ask, “Who gets to be resurrected?”
2 Nephi 9:12 answers with absolute clarity:
All of us.
All who fell.
All who die.
All who live again through Christ.
We are not divided at the resurrection.
We are united in being raised.
What This Means for Us
1. We all return to life.
Christ’s victory over death is total.
Because He rose, we rise.
2. We all stand before God.
Resurrection restores us so we can stand in His presence again—
not as spirits only, but as whole, embodied souls.
3. We choose our eternal state.
Resurrection is universal.
Glory is chosen.
We choose it through:
▪︎ our faith,
▪︎ our desires,
▪︎ our repentance,
▪︎ our covenant loyalty,
▪︎ and the works we offer during our time
on Earth.
Christ opens the door for all of us to rise.
We choose how brightly we shine when we do.
Center Summary
Because of the Fall, all of us became subject to death.
Because of Christ, all of us will be raised from death.
Resurrection is the gift given to every soul,
and the glory we inherit is shaped by the faith, devotion, and works we choose in this life.
THE THREE GLORIES OF HEAVEN
Latter‑day Saint doctrine teaches that every one of us will be resurrected, and after resurrection every one of us will inherit a kingdom of glory—a place prepared according to our desires, our faithfulness, and the works we offered to God during our mortal journey.
Resurrection is universal.
Glory is chosen.
The Apostle Paul saw these glories in vision (1 Corinthians 15).
Joseph Smith received the full revelation in Doctrine and Covenants 76.
Together they form a unified, merciful picture of God’s plan for all His children.
Below is a doctrinal unfolding of each glory.
THE CELESTIAL KINGDOM
The glory of the sun — the glory of covenant belonging
The Celestial Kingdom is the realm where God dwells, where Christ reigns, and where we become “joint‑heirs” with Him. It is the glory of those who fully receive the Father’s plan—not perfectly, but faithfully, humbly, and repentantly. While remaining vigilant and valiant in our testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Who are we in this glory?
We are:
▪︎ the covenant‑keepers,
▪︎ the disciples who chose Christ as our
way,
▪︎ the repentant who trusted His grace,
▪︎ the faithful who offered our hearts,
the ones who let Him refine us.
What defines this glory?
▪︎ We receive the fulness of the Father.
▪︎ We live in eternal family relationships.
▪︎ We become like Christ through His
mercy.
▪︎ We dwell in a world of light, love, and
unity.
Why do we inherit it?
Not because we were flawless,
but because we chose Him,
and we let His Atonement change us.
THE TERRESTRIAL KINGDOM
The glory of the moon — the glory of honorable discipleship
The Terrestrial Kingdom is a realm of great goodness, honor, and light. It is not a place of rebellion—it is a place of good people who lived clean, sincere lives but did not fully embrace the covenant path in mortality.
Who are we in this glory?
We are:
▪︎ the honorable and upright,
▪︎ the believers who lived well but not fully
in Christ’s covenant,
▪︎ the good-hearted who did not yield
completely to the Holy Ghost,
▪︎ the ones who chose decency but not
discipleship in its fulness.
What defines this glory?
▪︎ We receive the presence of the Son,
but not the fulness of the Father.
▪︎ We inherit a kingdom of peace, order,
and goodness.
▪︎ We live in a world far brighter than
mortality,
yet not the fulness of celestial light.
Why do we inherit it?
Because we lived honorably,
but we did not fully enter or endure in the covenant that leads to the Father.
THE TELESTIAL KINGDOM
The glory of the stars — the glory of mercy after repentance
The Telestial Kingdom is the realm of God’s astonishing mercy. It is not a kingdom of hell—it is a kingdom of glory, prepared for those who chose sin, pride, or rebellion in mortality, but who eventually bow the knee and accept Christ after suffering for their own sins.
Who are we in this glory?
We are:
▪︎ the ones who rejected the gospel in
mortality,
▪︎ the ones who lived in wickedness or
unbelief,
▪︎ the ones who would not repent until
after judgment,
▪︎ the ones who finally acknowledge Christ
and accept His rule.
What defines this glory?
▪︎ We receive the Holy Ghost,
but not the presence of the Son or the
Father.
▪︎ We inherit a world of glory beyond
mortal comprehension,
yet far below the higher kingdoms.
▪︎ We are saved from hell,
but not exalted.
Why do we inherit it?
Because God’s mercy reaches even the furthest wanderer,
and Christ redeems all who will finally turn to Him—
even if that turning comes late.
THE GRAND PATTERN:
WE CHOOSE OUR GLORY
In the end:
▪︎ We all rise.
▪︎ We all stand before God.
▪︎ We all inherit a kingdom of glory.
And the kingdom we inherit reflects:
▪︎ our desires,
▪︎ our faith,
▪︎ our repentance,
▪︎ our loyalty to Christ,
▪︎ and the works we offered with our time
on Earth.
God does not force us upward or downward.
He honors our agency.
He gives us the glory we are willing to receive.
Summary
Through Christ, we are all resurrected.
Through our choices, we determine our glory.
The Celestial is for those who fully embrace Christ.
The Terrestrial is for the honorable who do not.
The Telestial is for those who repent only after judgment.
And in all of it, God is merciful, just, and perfectly loving toward us.
