How do I know if the words of God are true?

๐Ÿ“’ Alma 32
๐Ÿ“œ 33 And now, behold, because ye have tried the experiment, and planted the seed, and it swelleth and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, ye must needs know that the seed is good.

๐ŸŒพ How do you know if the words of God are true?
Alma 32:33 answers not with argument, but with experience. Not with proof, but with growth. Let’s walk the path it lays out:

๐Ÿงช “Ye have tried the experiment”
You acted on the word. You didn’t just hear it—you planted it. You gave it space in your heart. That’s the first sign: truth invites participation.

๐ŸŒฑ “Planted the seed”
You didn’t demand instant fruit. You trusted the process. You let the word rest in your soul, like a seed in soil. That’s the second sign: truth is patient, not performative.

๐Ÿ’“ “It swelleth and sprouteth”
You felt something. A stirring. A swelling. A sprouting. The word began to change you—not just your thoughts, but your desires, your hope, your love. That’s the third sign: truth transforms.

๐ŸŒฟ “Beginneth to grow”
You saw it. In your choices. In your peace. In your relationships. The word didn’t stay buried—it grew. That’s the fourth sign: truth bears fruit.

✅ “Ye must needs know that the seed is good”
You know. Not because someone told you. Not because it was proven in a lab. But because it lived in you. That’s the final sign: truth is known by its life.

๐Ÿ•Š️ So how do you know if the words of God are true?
You plant them. You nourish them. You watch them grow. And when they do, you must needs know—they are good.

Several scriptures across the Bible and Book of Mormon echo Alma 32:33’s living metaphor of faith as a seed—emphasizing growth, testing, and experiential knowledge of divine truth.

Here are some powerful parallels:

๐ŸŒฑ Book of Mormon Parallels

- Alma 32:28
“Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart…”
—This is the beginning of the metaphor, where Alma invites the listener to make room for the word. Verse 33 is the fruit of this invitation.

- Alma 33:23
“...plant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell even so nourish it by your faith. And behold, it will become a tree, springing up in you unto everlasting life.”
—This verse completes the metaphor: the seed becomes a tree of eternal life. It mirrors Lehi’s vision and echoes Eden.

๐ŸŒฟ Bible Parallels

- Matthew 13:3–9 (Parable of the Sower)
“Behold, a sower went forth to sow…”
—Jesus teaches that the word of God is like seed scattered on different soils. Only the good ground—like the humble heart in Alma 32—brings forth fruit.

- Luke 8:15
“But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”
—This verse emphasizes patience and keeping the word—key to Alma’s “nourishing” metaphor.

- James 1:22
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
—Echoes Alma’s “experiment.” Truth is proven not by passive belief, but by doing—by planting, nourishing, and watching it grow.

- Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
—Alma 32:21 defines faith similarly. Both scriptures affirm that faith precedes knowledge, but leads to it.

๐ŸŒณ Symbolic Echoes

- Psalm 1:3
“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season…”
—The righteous, like Alma’s faithful seed, become rooted and fruitful.

- Jacob 5 (Zenos’ Allegory of the Olive Tree)
—Though more expansive, this allegory also uses the imagery of planting, nourishing, pruning, and harvesting to describe God’s work with His people.
